Indian Railways has announced major changes to Tatkal ticket booking starting July 1, 2025, to curb misuse and improve fairness. Here are New Tatkal Ticket Rules:
Key Changes at a Glance:
- Aadhaar Authentication Mandatory
You must link and verify your Aadhaar with your IRCTC account to book Tatkal tickets online. This rule applies at railway counters from July 15 with OTP verification. - Early Access for Aadhaar Users
Aadhaar-authenticated users get a 10-minute early access window:
- 10:00 AM for AC classes
- 11:00 AM for non-AC classes
- Agent Booking Restricted
IRCTC agents cannot book during:
- 10:00–10:30 AM (AC)
- 11:00–11:30 AM (Non-AC)
- OTP Verification for All
From July 15, an OTP linked to your Aadhaar will be required for every Tatkal booking — online, at counters, or through agents. - Chart Timing Changed
Reservation charts will now be prepared 8 hours before train departure, giving waitlisted passengers more clarity. - Tech Upgrades Coming
IRCTC’s system is being revamped to handle faster bookings, seat selection, and transparent availability by December 2025.
